Custom Website Design and Development

A custom website design is a unique, one-of-a-kind design that will stand out from template designs.

A template design allows you to make slight alterations, however there are MANY limitations that come into play. With a template design, you can change pictures, maybe colours and positions, but in the end the design is a prefab template - this is NOT a custom design, rather a customized design.

A custom design by F3 Designs is unique in its graphic layout, while providing a balance between coding and design. This ensures a fast, manageable turnaround time while also ensuring compliancy with web standards, and is built for Search Engine Optimization.

Don't be fooled by a template design. You will be extremely disappointed in the limitations, and the site will NOT be web standard compliant nor Search Engine friendly!

 

Web Standards (W3C: Worldwide Web Consortium)

The W3C is an international consortium of companies involved with the Internet and the Web, established web standards. The organization's purpose is to develop open standards so that the Web evolves in a single direction. The W3C is the chief standards body for web design and has taken over most of the development and promotion of standards for the World Wide Web.

Many website design companies do not adhere to W3C standards, perhaps because they do not have the knowledge to do so, find it hard to break old habits, or consider it an extra step that takes time.

Effective March 2010, all websites developed by F3 Designs will meet the W3C standards (both XHTML and CSS), and is included in the base price (i.e. is a routine part of the web design process).

Validating web documents is an important step which can dramatically help with improving and ensuring their quality, and it can save a lot of time and money. A W3C validated site provides:

  • Cost-Effective: Takes less time to maintain, upgrade and/or redesign your site.
  • Longevity: More easily controlled, therefore your website will easily last into the future.
  • Search Engine Friendly: Better for search engines, as it helps them index your site better.
  • Versatility: Display at any resolution and/or monitor size while fully maintaining design integrity.

 

Standard Search Engine Optimization (the essentials)

There is a common misconception amongst many business owners that good placement in search engine rankings happens automatically. Usually, the website is in the search engine index but it is buried so deeply in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERP’s), that only the most tenacious searchers will be able to find it.

Increasing your sites’ rankings takes diligence and experience. Additionally… your goals, current situation, and budget will also play a strong role in relation to your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) success. How a site is ranked within the various search engines involves a complex mixture of algorithms, alongside trial and error. For a website that focuses on a very specific and a less-common field, it can be much easier to rank near the top since there is less competition. For those websites. that focus on a specific, common field, there will understandably be a larger SEO challenge.

A routine part of any website developed by F3 Designs is standard SEO (the essentials). This includes a properly coded site and general recommendations on formatting your content to help in search engine ranking. It would be unethical to guarantee that your site will appear at the top of a search. However, what is guaranteed is that every effort will be made to try and get you a spot in the top rankings honestly and fairly, based on the combination of the information you provide, and F3 Designs’ current expertise in this area.

What is most important to understand about SEO is that there is no constant—no absolutes. SEO is a moving target and even some long-standing “guaranteed” methods of SEO success have been proven ineffective.

 

Web Hosting Setup (referral)

Website hosts are companies that provide space on a server that has a dedicated connection to the internet. This is where your website files reside in order to be accessible to the public.

Although F3 Designs does not offer web hosting, this service will be arranged for you if required--with a reliable web hosting company.

 

Domain Name Registration and Renewal

The websites domain name is often referred to as the "website address". Website domain names are registered through separate companies known as domain registrars.

F3 Designs offers services relating to the registration, management and renewal of your domain(s).

 

Website Maintenance (if developed by F3 Designs)

Any website designed by F3 Designs is owned by you, the client. You are of course welcome to perform updates and modifications as you wish. However, doing so may require a knowledge of website coding that many people are not willing or eager to learn. F3 Designs offers two options for your maintenance consideration:

  1. Contract F3 Designs: Recommended if you don’t have someone designated as ‘Web Master’ for your forthcoming website. Contracting F3 Designs will provide you with the convenience of having a professional web developer maintain your website on your behalf. This will ensure that your website will be maintained timely and seamlessly (i.e. eliminates potential issues from arising, that are possible when/if your website is maintained by someone who doesn’t necessarily have the required skills).

  2. Content Management System: Recommended if frequent maintenance is anticipated, and you would prefer to maintain your website on your own (i.e. you have someone designated as ‘Web Master’ for your forthcoming website).

 

Content Management Systems

F3 Designs offers you the ability to have your website developed with a Content Management System, so that you can maintain your website on your own after we launch it.

A Content Management System (CMS) is a software system used for managing content. Content Management Systems are deployed primarily for interactive use by a potentially large number of contributors. A CMS is a system with additional features to ease the tasks required to publish web content to websites.

 

eMail Marketing Campaigns (coming in 2010)

An eMail Marketing Campaign is a simple to use interface that allows you to easily create, manage and maintain a list of subscribers. An eMail marketing campaign provides full colour email templates designed for your brand, and involves the following steps:

  • Add existing eMail addresses you may have to the database
  • Integrate with your website (i.e. sign-up for our eNewsletters)
  • Setup your mailing list(s)
  • Send your eMail campaigns (i.e. one-time, recurring, auto responder, split testing, etc.)
  • View reports (i.e. read/open rates, link tracking stats, bounced emails, subscriptions, unsubscribors, etc.)
